Working with a screeding contractor
Screeding.ie passes screeding jobs from ten counties to one screeding contractor who covers your county. You send the job (or build a job sheet), they ring you, look at the drawings and price it. Your number isn't sent to a list.
Below: what a screeding contractor does and doesn't do, what they need from you, and the questions that separate one price from another.
Free, no obligation. One local screeding contractor prices it, not five.
What a screeding contractor does
- Lays the screed: sand and cement by hand, or liquid screed by pump.
- Sets the levels from your datum and forms bays and joints.
- Often fits the perimeter strip and polythene for liquid screed; agree who does.
- Advises on curing and drying.
- Doesn't usually supply insulation, DPMs or heating, and doesn't test moisture for the flooring: that's the floor fitter's job.
What they need from you
- Floor plans with areas, and the section through each floor type.
- Finished floor levels and the depth available.
- Heating zone layouts, if any.
- The programme: when floors are ready, how many visits.
- Access: where a truck can park, how far to the furthest room, which floors.
Questions that separate prices
- Which product, and what strength class?
- What depth, and what happens if the levels need more?
- What surface regularity class?
- How many bays and joints, and who forms them?
- Is laitance sanding included (anhydrite)?
- How many visits does the price allow?
- What drying advice comes with it, and when can the heating go on?
- VAT included or not?
